Bad referee saves goalkeeper from epic embarassment

During the last minute of a match in January '05, Spurs' Pedro Mendes shoots from 50 yards and United goalkeeper Roy Carroll spills the ball into his own net before hooking it clear. Neither linesman nor referee give the goal.

The top angle view definitely helps and I'm afraid the referee (and linesmen) has to lean on no than yes if he can't see it. The event was quite unlikely and as such the referees will be caught out of position. Of course it is still shockingly bad and only reinforces the need for goal line camera decisions in this sport.
