All he had to do was drop the knife...

Police brutality?.. well when five cops yell, several times, for you to drop the knife, and you decide to keep holding the knife.. you are sending a pretty strong "Hi, I'm a knife-wielding crack-addict ready for some action!" type of message. He is lucky they didnt just shoot him. (lucky it was a public street and shooting wasnt really an option.)

I fully Agree it could have been much worse. Try holding a knife for that long of time in Russia!
When I read the title I thought "For surely Hes going to Die in a blaze of gun fire... ooohhh lets watch!"

First this is stupid, drop the knife. Second the guy with the knife had the drop on them all, because they circled him. Do not shoot at some one when you are circled, because a bullet could go through that person, and hit your partner. Therefore it shows that they were not ready to use deadly force on him, hence the car.

After pinning him against a bike stand with the car, they approach him, then yell, "Back off!" like he's got anywhere to go.

When the cops are yelling at him to drop the knife, he doesn't do it, but when a kid (sounds like a kid's voice) tells him to drop the knife, he does it.

I would upvote it for the pepper spray in the take-down, but I'm going to upvote it because I work a couple blocks from Yonge & Wellesley, where this happens.

Krupo should see this vid.

It's a wonderful thing to look at a cop car and see it painted with the words "To Serve and Protect" and know it's true. Welcome to Canada. I remember this incident vividly and the officers did a fantastic job.

i've never done crack, but i am guessing that if you are on crack and you are surrounded by armed police and all you have is a knife, well, "drop the knife" sounds a bit different, if you are listening at all, that is. also i wouldn't call ramming someone with a car twice "non lethal force". but it's not police brutality, unless you count the fact that the police sell drugs by proxy.

As the police like to say, a video is just one angle, and does not show the whole story.

Maybe this guy had a good reason to hang onto his knife. It looks like he had a pretty good reason to believe if he dropped it he would be jumped on by a whole bunch of cops.

I suppose if the guy in the middle was a cop with a night stick and a circle of gang members were ordering him to drop it, and then they hit him with a car, that would have been all okay too.
