I really did not expect that to be so interesting.
Dashcam Video Of Alabama Cop Who Shot Man Holding His Wallet
I was actually fairly ambivalent on gun control until I moved to the UK. I lived there for 3 years and trying to explain American gun culture to a Brit is mostly what changed my mind.
Watching this as a brit it makes my blood boil.
I get why the cop shot him. The way he got out of the car and was holding his wallet it really did look like it could be a gun aimed at the officer. In a country where the person getting out of the car could well be carrying a gun that's a reasonable response from the officer. I'm with that. I get it.
I don't understand how anyone thinks that all this is OK though. This would never have happened in the UK, or any other country where guns are carefully controlled. Having guns rife in the country leads to so much shit like this. So many unnecessary deaths. All these lives are worth less than 'I want to carry a gun'. It's madness, and I don't understand how you can't see that.
This cop did nothing wrong, it's the only reasonable response to that situation where there's guns everywhere. You guys need to get rid of the guns. Really.
Scientists Invent 2x Faster, Heatless Clothes Dryer
As far as I can tell, ultrasonic atomizers run around 30 to 40 kHz and this should be similar (there might be important differences I'm not thinking of though). And a dog's range of hearing is generally considered to be up to around 45 kHz.
So, to answer your question, I have no idea.
Is it going to make dogs and the like go crazy?
Jon Stewart Calls Out The Media Regarding Trump
I've been getting the same feeling - not sure what it is.
Something about Jon has changed and I can't put my finger on it. He seems a little awkward somehow or uncomfortable. Been noticing it since before the elections. I just keep getting the feeling something is wrong in his life.
david foster wallace-the problem with irony
It seems odd to suggest that people shouldn't take life lessons from someone that happened to end their own life.
That said, I don't disagree on the video. On top of that, he doesn't seem to be connecting much of what he's saying to Wallace in any direct way. Based off of one quote that I googled and am now drawing too many conclusions from (link below), Wallace seemed to think that irony was a very valuable backlash to the 50's and 60's but that it ran its course.

Well that just made my week.
Stephen Fry Hates Dancing
I genuinely wish this video did made me disagree with Stephen. I want to get it. I really do, but I don't. In fact, I think she's kind of making his point - or at least a portion of it.
I actually like dancing though. I like it because I like getting stupid and have no interest in pretending it's anything more than that. I don't get interpretive dance and I don't get this as a response to Stephen's feelings on the subject and I'm sure this would not "make the man shudder."
The Bose Suspension In Action
I've actually ridden in the car and it is genuinely amazing. The surprising part is that the lack of body roll on hard turns is just as noticeable and impressive as the smooth ride over the bump strips.
We also took a lot of the technology and have rolled it into this:

The Bose Suspension In Action
Oooo...cool. I work at Bose - cool to see the suspension system in the top 15.
And you guys are right, the hop is built into the control system for the suspension system. It's just a little subroutine activated by a switch in the dash. As far as I know, that is. The project was shut down long before I started at the company.
Another Truck Hits That Massachusetts Bridge
This is a great example of what I call the "good luck" school of Massachusetts civil engineering.
I was thinking the same thing, it's hilarious - they have the whole setup there, signals, cameras... yet they haven't set it up with some sort of gauge to flash the signal to stop to such vehicles? Laziness.

Grand Theft Auto V - Trailer #2
Oh my God, YES!
Can we Predict Everything?
Such fun stuff.
I think it's worth making the distinction here between predictable and deterministic. Determinism, of the outcome determined by initial conditions sort, isn't a testable position and therefore can't be ruled out entirely by experiment because you can't roll the universe back to the same state repeatedly and see what happens. Experiments testing Bell's inequality, for instance, can't rule out concepts like superdeterminism.
