Japanese Street Food: Takosen
But ... hygiene.
When a Goose Loves a Human
I may be the only one who thinks like this, but it reminds of Taleb's Thanksgiving Turkey analogy:

jmd's theory sounds plausible.
I've also heard the interpretation that since she is a full body prosthesis, it is meant to illustrate the detachment she has to her sexuality which sounds plausible although I hate to read too much into literature.
Might just be titillation, Japan is certain not shy about injecting sex into its anime. According to here, the manga series creator had a history of sexualised manga prior to GitS:
https://www.reddit.com/r/bestof/comments/1fl864/tactile_cacti_in_ranime_explains_why_nudity_in/?sort=confidence
A brief bit of google fu shows that in the anime she's naked? Is there a point to that other than cheap titillation?
I can see where it could add to a feeling of vulnerability, I guess, but it feels like the movie makers are trying to have their cake and eat it.
Anyway, I've never seen the original anime (not a big anime fan), but I thought the suit looked ridiculous in the trailer.
Everything else looked pretty cool, especially the weird spider geisha thing.

IMDB says so. Also here the producer is saying they're mixing in 2nd GIG with the origins story episode from that season. If you've watched it you'll know what I mean:

If they're quoting episode names then they at least familiar with the source material, so that's a plus.
Really? That's kuze? But this wasn't part of his storyline. Hmmm... I mean he could be some new character who is also fully cyber which seems to be the rarity in this film. Did you see an cast list to verify the name?
First 5 minutes of Ghost in the Shell Movie.
The trailer featured Kuze, who was the main antagonist in the 2nd GiG.
This scene is a call back to the original movie but it doesn't mean the story is related.
I'm glad they didn't go the CGI route, just seems kind of off to me.
The suit looks awesome, nothing fat and bulky about it what soever. At first I thought it was a digital body in the trailers but then adam savage did a whole video on it.
It does not look like it is going to take on either sac or 2nd gig. The storyline that the major was forced to have this done to her is definitely origin story and forked timeline stuff, in fact it appears that she is near one of a kind with her full synthetic body in this version of the world. At the same time section 9 is formed already.

Yeah, I don't see how they can fit any significant component of the 2nd GiG season in a movie, let alone any philosophical depth. Stylistically they seem to be on the right track, although Hollywood has never been short of pretty visual effects.
Have to admit the Major suit does look a bit silly as almost like a fat suit, but I understand that they couldn't have done it any other way without CGI. Whatever, as long as it's a stylistic action flick that doesn't butcher the story it will have met my expectations.
So they are crossing SAC with the Movie?? That really does not make sense.... HMmmmmm
I'll still give it a chance....
Japan Does Computer Commercials Better
Really? I always thought at least with mobiles they got the cutting edge Japan-only models with special features that don't end up coming up to other countries.
I stopped in a Mouse computer store (small section on 1 floor of a much larger 9 floor "tech mall" in Tokyo). Nothing especially impressive. Computers in Japan are > 15% more expensive (and 1-2 CPU generations behind) computers sold in the US.
Nice commercial though.
Stephen Pulls A 'Rachel Maddow'
He does a segment about it too:

Can't seem to find the source from Maddow's show.
Probably would be best if the background to the story was provided.
