Tags=Title?

Hey, I've been wondering . . . If you have a title, say, "Dogs on the Freakin' Moon" does it help to put tags such as: dogs, freakin', moon?

In other words, doesn't the search already look for words in the title so that repeating those words in the tags doesn't help?

Thanks all.

I usually add the title (or some portion of it) into the tags, because it's just easier to come up with the appropriate tags that way. I do think it's pointless for searching, however.

Don't just think of tags as useful for searching, they are also useful for the tag cloud. Using your example, if you put dogs and moon in your tags then someone could click on "moon" in your tags and then see all the videos with "moon" in their tags.

I used to think it was redundant as well, but have since come to appreciate good tags.

Yeah...especially if the video is of a certain actor, band, TV show, movie etc... You'll probably have that info listed in the title but by also putting it in the tag people will be able to do an instant search for other videos with that certain actor, band, TV show, or movie etc...just by clicking on your tag.

Try and keep them as different as possible, though. Identical tags and titles are annoying, and if I have more time, I'll go and edit more whenever possible.

I'd have to say this is bad practice. It's completely valid and preferred to keep all relevant tags regardless of their presence or absence in the title.

In fact, it's frequently very important that terms in the title also appear in tags. For example, a video titled Chuck Norris VS Bruce Lee reeeeally should contain tags chuck norris, bruce lee (right now the tags are simple "real or fake") so any viewers of the video can click either tag to find exactly the corresponding term in other videos.

What's really annoying is when I come across a vid with a bunch of info in the title that I'd like to search for, but instead am forced to manually create a tag search.

Tags, especially those belonging to videos of others, should never be modified to remove repetitive terms. There is no benefit to avoiding duplicate terms (except, I guess, to not annoy some people ).

soo.... we SHOULD duplicate stuff from the title in tags?

"What's really annoying is when I come across a vid with a bunch of info in the title that I'd like to search for, but instead am forced to manually create a tag search."

what does that mean?

and whatever is the case there are 3 problems:
1) Best practice is not communicated well enough to members and members probably wouldn't follow complicated explanations anyway, so best practice has to be the simplest, not necessary the best (!)
2) Thousands of existing videos are not tagged properly
2) The search still doesn't find dupes, e.g. landing F-15 with one wing, One winged F-15 lands.

with tags i usually try to think "what will people search for?" e.g. "dogs" good, "freakin'" bad, "moon" good.

i think part of the problem is that people do clever descriptions and titles to try to get more votes. this should be discouraged. the title should be the title, the tags should be the tags, the description should describe.
I suggested a hidden description, a place to put all the info possible, which could be included in search and shown in deadpool, but not shown in the queue because that's where people want to be clever, or people don't want to spoil the surprise. But of course, that's a simple and effective idea that will be implemented some time after Sift Money is complete
