Over a month ago, I changed my avatar to include a Santa hat. It finally showed up today. Why the month long wait?

Why is a comment by karaidl accompanied by Dag's avatar?

My browser is playing tricks on me, as I still see karaidl's old avatar next to the comments. Why would that be?
