The Knowledge Seekers of Videosift
The internet is a never ending fountain of knowledge anybody can spend
hours surfing and sifting through the endless pieces of knowledge once
only made available to those who were privileged. The internet recently
has been flooded with millions of new users thanks to the mass
popularization of online video. Internet subscriptions are up while TV
viewership is going down, it is only a matter of time before Television
is swallowed by the Internet.
Many new websites are offering
embedded videos and many older websites are starting to catch up to the
technology. No doubt, there is lots of money being invested in online
video. No matter how you slice it, Videosift is in the middle of one of
the most compelling competitions for viewers in media history. All
websites are suddenly on a level playing field with all the major media
corporations like News Corp and Time Warner.
With copyright and
regulations the major media companies can try to slow the Internet, but
as long as there are honest people willing to share video, the internet
will endure these ongoing setbacks, Videosift will survive even without
the Viacom videos and FOX cartoons.
TV is merely an engine to advertise mostly retarded products from
insanely rich corporations and it works, over the year TV has turned
generations of people into ignorant fools who buy retarded products.
15 minutes out of every hour spent in front of the TV is time spent
watching adverts, sometimes more especially with the rising number of VNR's. (Thats when they package advertisements as news.)
Anyway...The Internet is populated with thousands of new
users daily, who bounce around the Internet until they find a website
that they are comfortable with enough to call their home. I have
bounced many times in my 10 year surfing history and I currently have
two jobs involved with online media, Videosift is the latest website
that has caught me bouncing and I would like think my contributions
here will attract other passionate video researchers.
The
Videosift community is who creates the value of each page on this
website, its the users contributions that make this website a
destination for online video entertainment. Videosift is also a unique
destination for knowledge, many users come here to take advantage of
the vast, ever expanding archives of interesting and thought provoking
topics that engulf philosophical, political, historical and scientific
videos. Comment fields under such topics are generally full of random
opinions, It's mainly in these comment threads where Internet Research is most important, especially when first time visitors and fence sitting members are using the videosift archive to find information.
Take this example, a submission by Karaidl titled "Who Owns America's wealth?" A very thought provoking clip, It says that the richest 1% of Americans own 37% of the nations wealth, that is an incredible statistic. The numbers come from the Federal Reserve. I was able to find a few appropriate more links, first a link to some colourful charts and also opinions from a university professor who dedicates much time researching the topic.
So suddenly this video submission becomes a collection of information dedicated to the topic in the title, so now a new person who enters videosift after typing "Who Owns America's Wealth?" into google he will not only be visually stimulated by the moving picture he will be pleased to find links that will help him/her continue on the journey for answers, who knows maybe that new user will appreciate the mix of video and information and sign up and start contributing himself. So next time you have a couple extra minutes to burn after watching a clip on videosift, think about the knowledge seekers and include some research to our video archive.
