new MTV news show w/mentally and physically disabled anchors

I am unsure what to make of this show. on one hand, it's a great opportunity for the people involved, and has the possibility of helping the public at large see folks with disabilities as more than just the disability. On the other hand, there is the concern that this could end up being a "look at them wacky tards" show.

I think this does look really good. The more time people spend watching people with disabilities like this the less they see the disability and more see the person. As people watch it they'll get to 'know' each of the people in the show and their quirks and likes and personalities and through that learn that you can't just lump all disabled people into a common pot.

So, good stuff. Plus looks quite entertaining also.

I'm okay with me if people watch it to have a laugh, because along the lines of what spoco2 said, people getting familiar with the disabled can only be a good thing. People have a natural discomfort around those with disabilities, but that discomfort decreases with increased exposure.

Everyone should work with disabled people at some point in their lives; the earlier the better.

Couldn't agree more. Happiest work times of my life so far. Everyone should definitely give it a go, if you hate your job go find one working with people with disabilites, there is always a huge need!
