Zero Punctuation: The Sims 3

This week Yahtzee nastily rips apart The Sims 2++.

Amazingly accurate.. I couldn't have put it better. Down with the repetitive day/night/work/sleep/eat cycle!

I'd better have dinner, then go to bed, so I can get to work on time tomorrow...

Maybe I'll stare at a computer screen for an hour or two playing games. Much the equivalent of running in a hamster wheel. But worse. No exercise.

God damn but that's what i've been trying to say about the SIMS for years and he's done a better job in 30 seconds than i've done in 2 hour arguments about the game.

Hang on a minute, he's also just expressed my entire philosophy about the desperate empty shell of a future our civilisation promises us.

Shit yahtzee, i could form a religion over this. Excellent job.

He gives a pretty accurate description. I've played all 3 iterations of the game so far, and they're all essentially the same. They're fun... until they're not, and that transition doesn't take very long. There's just not much to it at all, and really nothing to aspire to.

This is exactly what I thought about "The Sims" when it first came out, version 1. Wouldn't you rather maintain/clean your own house rather than commanding fictional computer pixels to do it to their virutal one?

Waste of time....but not more of one than WoW.

I find it fascinating that people can hook into the Sims, I love the idea of getting so emotionally involved in the game. I stand quite apart from most of you.

Unfortunately its just....so boring.

As much as I thought Sims 1 was an interesting idea but flawed, and Sims 2 was downright aweful, I'm actually rather enjoying Sims 3. Sure the whole day/night, work/eat/sleep cycle is a bit of a bore but the game is so very revamped and has so much depth and possibilities that it's quite interesting. I find the game oddly relaxing.

Mind it's hardly what Sims 1/2 was, IE a sim that you must remind to pee and get to bed on time, a house you built with tools that would only half do what you wanted them to do and thats it. Your sim(s) and their house. The new one is the entire town, there's far less micromanagement of each individual sim (though the option is there if thats what you enjoy.) Shit you practically can let the game go by itself and your sims will do what they need to, when they need. The fun, for me at least, is now all the other activities you can do. All the seemingly random events that take place in your house and in the town. It's gotten far deeper and more polished and certainly isn't just your sim and their house anymore. For example, my main sim right now is a business mogul that owns half the businesses in the town.

The game certainly isn't your girlfriends Sims 1/2 anymore. I mean if you HATED the first, you probly won't like it, but if you simply didn't find Sims 2 enjoyable, you might find yourself pleasantly surprised.

Wow.. you "anti-sims" guys really have smug anti-social problems with people who like the sims. Hey, I play the game too, but damn, just because I don't like certain games doesn't mean "I stand quite apart" as Raaagh so eloquently put it.

Yes, I know you are all smart and funny and have your own life to lead and everything. Now imagine you are 13 and bored to hell.

Hey, guess what, since that's not you it obviously hasn't crossed your mind others might have legitimate reasons for liking this game. Christ, if you don't like it great, and the review was funny... and strikingly true from a 35 year old game reviewers point of view...

problem is, people, there are still KIDS who play games... and there are still games for kids.

So relax.
