Wouldn't this just encourage the sale of Girl Scout cookies?

This girl scout tries to launch a cookie boycott campaign after organization's inclusion of transgender children.

This girl self-righteous and is hate confused.

Equality is right there in her quotes: "Ensure that no girl is treated differently. Girl Scouts welcomes all members, regardless of age, race, ethnicity, culture, background, sexual orientation, gender."

In addition to this - does she realize the strict gender segregation no longer applies. Girls have been joining Boy Scouts for years.

Safety? - Is she afraid a transgendered male will attack her. He's trans-gendered, by definition, I don't think girls are on his mind.

Oh, and I like cookies!

It is a tricky issue and she's pointing out the possible loopholes. Though she stands at the opposite end of my political ring, I do recognize the possibility of concern.

It's a bit difficult to decipher what point she is making exactly because she makes her point in between sentences rather than at the beginning, but after rewinding it a few times I think I get where she stands. The main argument is that from the traditional point of view, transgenders do not qualify as a 'girl', while modern point of view says transgenders do qualify as a girl as long as the individual chooses to be so.

This new rule is solely dependent on what the individual claim him/herself to be, an intangible claim of identification. And in a traditional organization, identity based on 'claim' has little merit over straight physical evidence.

And by accepting the transgender children into the traditional scout group obviously creates confusion within its own system since the perspective of 'gender' contradicts the definition set up previously.

Gender identity and sexual orientation aren't the same, though there's surely a correlation. But I think you'd find that both transgendered guys and girls can each be into guys and girls.

I also like cookies. But Girl Scout cookies are chock full of trans-fats, and I just can not tolerate that sort of immoral fat-bending.

Fun Fact:"On Nov. 24, 2008, Girl Guides of Canada announced that they had finally found a way to reduce the amount of trans fats in their popular chocolate- and vanilla-flavoured cookies. The new cookies — which will contain 90 per cent less trans fat than the old cookies — will be available in the spring of 2009. The organization has been raising money through cookie sales for 81 years. The cookies are made by Dare, which has offered other trans fat-free cookies for several years."

As a gay female, one of the main reasons I continue to refuse to purchase or otherwise contribute to Boy Scout funding is their official stance on not allowing gay scouts. However, I continue to support Girl Scouts and buy cookies because of their open inclusion of all members. I'm actually impressed that they include transgender as well.

Of course it doesn't hurt that Thin Mints and Tagalongs are delicious. I'll take a few more boxes! ; p
