MaxWildersays...Funny, but I like him better on QI or another kind of conversational format, rather than stand-up. He seems a bit stilted in this vid.
Stormsingersays...I'd guess that if he seemed stilted (I didn't get that, myself), it had more to do with watching his language than the format. He's normally quite vulgar, which definitely wouldn't fly on the Tonight Show.
Either way, I found him completely hilarious, as always.
spoco2says...It really must be hard for him to do a 'clean' show actually...
BoneyDsays...Original page, for those that NBC embeds don't work for.
kymbossays...Thanks BoneyD - could not get it to load.
kymbossays...I love watching dry British comedians do their thing in the US. It really takes a while to cross the cultural barrier, and they never quite seem to nail it. That was very funny, but it's toned down and the audience is quite slow on the uptake.
Gervais has the same reaction when he does his sets.
brycewi19says...It's a shame that he has to pause just a tad bit longer for the American audiences to "get it" after each of his jokes.
Man, we're a dumb lot.

Wow, I guess you can call me slow, I didn't think the pauses were anything out of the ordinary. He does do some jokes where he omits the rest of a sentence, and it's pretty typical for a human being to pause a beat to figure out where the joke is. If someone laughed immediately after Carr says "When the Iraq War started, little did President Bush know." it would seem very odd. People hear that as "When the Iraq War started, little did President Bush know...", and naturally are waiting for the 'rest' of the joke.
kymbossays...Yeah, I'm not willing to put that in the 'Americans are stupid' box. It's a late night telly crowd, and it would definitely be a change of pace from the usual comedy they'd be expecting. I just enjoy the subtle cultural clash between the brits and the americans.
RhesusMonksays...The chess stuff was priceless.
