This is how you hand-launch a U-2 after it loses a wheel

The U-2 spy doesn't have normal wheels, instead the plane relies on spindly little pogo wheels that fall away on takeoff, but sometimes they fall off early... here is a guy holding up the wing while the U-2 revs up ready for takeoff (and then trying not to be blown away).

meh...when we launch gliders the guy holding the wing is signaling the tow pilot with his other arm and running much farther down the runway than that.

They must do because I can't imagine they would try to chase down a landing jet in a car like that just to get a nice view of it. I'd hate to be the guy who has to grab the wing, but the guy driving the car has one of the coolest jobs in the world.
