Wow.

Awesome plus awful equals awesome!

The comment only has one two downvotes so far. I'll be checking my car carefully for devices before getting in though, avoiding dark alleys, and keeping my curtains drawn

Funny thing is that the Ween fans I know don't actually defend that song terribly much.

You should sift that, and start a worst of the 90s playlist. I'm only slightly concerned that I'll own all of them on cd already (I was just pleased the 80s was over).

oritteropo, Ween fans are particularly passionate. You're in dangerous territory. Personally, if anything challenges Tubthumping, I think this song could be the worst of the 90s: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7290489683539680492

Surely Ween's "Push th' Little Daisies" was the worst song from the 90s? Maybe this was the 2nd worst?

At least in the US, "Push th' Little Daisies" gets a break because, upon hearing it, everyone promptly recognized how horrible it was and never played it again.

"Tubthumping", on the other hand, enjoyed regular airtime for what seemed like an eternity and was touted by every drunken ass-clown in the country as a great song.

What always struck me about Chumbawamba was that they've got like 15 fucking members and, evidently, none of them can write a song. I'd expect better odds than that if I were just picking random people off the street.

Meh. Tubthumping was not a horrible song. It was an average song that a lot of people found catchy.

I understand hyperbole. I could understand if you said "My most hated song" or something (because of how often it was played) even though it probably isn't that either if you actually thought about it. That's OK: naturally hyperboles don't have to actually be true.

But to say it's the worst, you expect something to at least be in the bottom quarter. Tubthumping isn't. And if you think it is, I think you're either adding a significant filter to what you're counting (ie. it's a bad song among songs that were very popular or something) or you're not remembering the 90s very well. There was a lot of serious crap, and much of it aged worse than this.

Also, this cover doesn't actually vary that much from the original. It's funner, largely because the chorus for the main hook really suits the song... but it's not a transformative re-imagining or something.

I still couldn't make it through the whole song, because I don't like the song and never did.

I think the truth is you liked the original song (which this is really quite close to) but you got tired of it. Don't hide behind the hate.

Okay, Tubthumping and indeed much of that album was bad, but earlier Chumbawamba is some of the best non-punk anarchist rock out there (I am less impressed with their more folk turn of late). Liberation, We Don't Go to God's House Anymore, Enough is Enough... great songs...
