This is the basic guiding principle of corporations. It shouldn't really come as a surprise. It's depressing and horrible, but the people in charge won't go to jail for it. At best, the company MIGHT be fined.

Government and corruption are synonymous. Any examples of efficiency and morality come from honorable individuals and are not encouraged by the system - which tends toward waste and abuses.

Thank goodness for whistle blowers.

The one positive takeaway from this is that he's still alive... no government likes whistle blowers, but at least we don't execute ours.

"The embassy is being built by a Kuwaiti firm, First Kuwaiti General Trading & Contracting Co., which was awarded the contract after no U.S. company would meet the terms, the committee was told."

"[Rory J. Mayberry] said the men were basically "kidnapped by First Kuwaiti to work on the U.S. Embassy.""

You can't really blame the US government for this. I guess. Or maybe you can. I wonder what kind of "terms" the US companies didn't meet...

un-fucking-believable.
Nothing seems too vile for our good God fearing born again Christian government any more.

Aside from the kidnapping itself, how is it that 50 guys with no passports can get smuggled against their will past US security in an Active War Zone, but no one in the military or the state dept will have any idea about how such a thing could possibly occur.

At this point would it surprise anyone if they just executed the lot of them once they've finished the job.

And we can't understand why the rest of the world despises us.

Did you miss the part about how he was afraid to say anything until he got back for fear he would be booted out of the green zone?

Hey! Where is quantumushroom to tell us all that we're being whiny liberals and should just shut the f--k up about all this? That we're just being paranoid and that those Phillipino guys should just be happy that they have a job?

Disturbing stuff if true. Of course no one is going to get prosecuted over this.

On a lighter note I'm intrigued by his choice of tie. Is that something you have to wear to prove your patriotism in America just in case you're viewed as a leftie for giving a damn about human rights?

If this is true, at the very least, the company that did this should be banned from ever doing business with or within the US again, and all those responsible should be in jail, and their assets should be seized and given to the victims.
