Stone Cutting By Hand

YT- Dennis Carter, founder and owner of Deer Isle Hostel in Maine uses a 2-pound hammer to cut a 26,000 pound block of lovely Deer Isle granite into two equal parts. This is the first of many cuts. When finished, the resulting smaller blocks will be used to make the foundation of a workshop that he is building at the Hostel.

Incredible. How did he start the holes? Just pound in the spikes little by little? Also, it didn't look like a very straight cut, which probably won't matter for his purposes. I absolutely love low tech like this.

from the side profile, looks like the holes were pre-drilled all the way down.

Some historians believe pyramids' stones were cut similarly.
If you are in a climate that is below freezing (even if overnight), you could fill the holes with water then those water-columns would act as a wedge when it turns to ice and expands.
