Stephen Hawking - Physics Leaves No Room For God (10:13)

From The Times:
Modern physics leaves no place for God in the creation of the Universe, Stephen Hawking has concluded.

Just as Darwinism removed the need for a creator in the sphere of biology, Britain's most eminent scientist argues that a new series of theories have rendered redundant the role of a creator for the Universe.

In his forthcoming book, an extract from which is published exclusively in Eureka, published today with The Times, Professor Hawking sets out to answer the question: "Did the Universe need a creator?" The answer he gives is a resounding "no".

Far from being a once-in-a-million event that could only be accounted for by extraordinary serendipity or a divine hand, the Big Bang was an inevitable consequence of the laws of physics, Hawking says.

"Because there is a law such as gravity, the Universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the Universe exists, why we exist," he writes.

"It is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the Universe going," he finds.

at about 3:40 or so, the presenter states, "That still leaves the question, what happened before the beginning."

Frack, If time hasn't started yet... there is no before. I know that's a tough concept for some people, but yeesh, stop saying it on the frackken news.

lol if your mornic enoughf to belive in anny of the litraly religoins then anny scentific evidence wont change annything .

there is absaluty no solid scentitfic evidence for people having gardeain angels and spirits , yet thousends of people still belive in it , people evan belive in things that have been catagoricly disproven by science , such as evalutoin not existing.

so , no it wont change annything , if annything its realy thick to say "no room left for god" i mean there has been no room left for a fucking christain god for the last 200 or so years.

and as for no room left for a diast typ god , random entity well you could never disprov eor prove that evan if u knew exactly how th euniverse was formed or had all the scentific knowlage from our perspective , because you will always have room to say "Well god exsists in another universe and he is reposnable for making out universe and our rules.

I love the way they're both like: yeah, it's cool, it's not done but it's cool, and it doesn't say God doesn't exist and probably nothing like this ever will.

I think this would have been different on american television.

Alistar McGrath is so full of crap.

"Why are [the laws of physics] so reassuringly fine-tuned to values that lead to the existence of life.."

You've got to be fucking kidding me. The universe, for all intends and purposes, is almost 100% HOSTILE to all life. even if we assume theres a billion planets out there like earth, thriving with life, that still leaves the vast majority of mass in states completely hostile to any life, either way to cold planets and gas-giants, or way too warm, or simply on fire like the stars. And thats only the insignificant part of the universe that actually is something at all. The universe is still almost 100% empty, cold space. Conditions in witch any sign of life would instantly freeze to death in utter darkness, so far from anything that you wouldnt even be able to make out any light at all, if you were there, which we never will be, because its too fucking far to imagine.

The thin film surrounding this tiny rock that we're standing on is the only known place that we, or anything else can live, and in a few hundred million years, the sun will swell to a red giant and turn the entire thing into a lump of coal that it will later swallow, and with the possible exception of the Voyager-1, there will be no signs that life ever existed in this part of the galaxy.

Fine-tuned my ass.
