articiansays...I don't understand why he didn't let him blow up congress.
xxovercastxxsays...The sonic screwdriver is way too close to a magic wand these days, but if they fix the horrible writing from this past season I might be willing to overlook it. Of course if they had good writers again, they might not need a magic wand to make the plots work.

What gives?

I think the psychic paper has been used a few times. Once at least in his first episode when the jailor on the other side of the crack in the wall beamed a message to it. Not as much as the previous Doctor of course, but still around. Anybody else remember another example?

Someone put a Deadlock on it. Fucked his sonicscrewdrivering shit up.
Lilithiasays...As @Phreezdryd mentioned, the eleventh Doctor used psychic paper in "The Eleventh Hour." Apart from that, he used it in the episodes "The Vampires of Venice," "The Hungry Earth," "Vincent and the Doctor," "The Lodger," "A Christmas Carol," "The Rebel Flesh," "A Good Man Goes to War," and finally, "Night Terrors". I don't think that's much less often than his predecessors.

Sylvester_Inksays...Firstly, the sonic screwdriver wasn't introduced until the Troughton (2nd Doctor) era. I believe it was 1967-68.
Secondly, you think it's overpowered in the new series? You should see some of the feats it pulled off in the classic series. It could slice, dice, and make tunnels in solid rock. Thankfully, at some point they decided not to let it be too powerful and scaled it down a bit. They even nixed it in Peter Davison's run as the 5th Doctor. (Manliest Doctor, of course.)
Still, I have no problem with it, as the writers do a decent job of keeping it from being all that important a plot device on the show.
