Cute pro-piracy animation

jonnysays...

As with many political issues, folks need to start using better language. Piracy is, by definition, a crime. Stop calling it piracy and call it what it is - sharing, fair-use, etc. Get some marketing types on this asap!

cool animation.

I'd downvote this if I could. Splitting a cookie in half is in no way analogous to "sharing" digital content. Just because the digital age has made pirating music and movies and tv shows easy, doesn't mean the act is any less immoral or illegal. Nor does the outrageous overreaction of groups like the MPAA and RIAA make theft any more justifiable.

That's the idea behind this video.

I don't know if "piracy" has much of a negative connotation these days. People love pirates. I give you Johnny Depp's latest. Pirates are cute, cool, retro.

I think they should call copying music and movies "puppy sodomy" that would be much more effective. Quick call the MPAA and the RIAA.

Paybacksays...

Wish people would stop considering music and other digital media as property you've purchased. It's not yours. Like a rental car, you've only paid for the use of it. You can't "share" it without permission. You can transfer the lease, but the object goes along with it, it's no longer in your control. The only difference between Budget Rent-a-car and Sony Music is the length of the lease and how much you pay for the total time.

ps. I want a magic regenerating chocolate chip cookie. Now.

Copyright law is becoming the bane of creativity and collaboration and derivative works, not the protector that it was originally intended to be. There's very little difference between sending your friend a good track that you heard and inviting him over to listen to it in person, except that the convenient way is illegal.

What?? no boats, no parrots, this is definitely mislabeled.

This is just propaganda in an attempt to discredit The Gospel of the Flying spaghetti Monster by pretending that the number of pirates is increasing.

These are not Pirates, and calling them pirates will not stop global warming!!!!

I see it if you are exploiting it and making money off it (burning copies and selling them in the street) then yes its piracy and should rightfully be stopped. But how is "sharing" a movie or song with a friend any different then letting them borrow it. Or inviting a ton of people over to watch a new movie i just bought. They didnt buy it so they have no right to watch it? If they arent making money off it than isnt the line of what I can and cant do with it kinda blurred? Upvote for the house getting up and walking away at the end, what the hell lol

What the video fails to show you is that 10 minutes prior, that cute little kid was at the grocery store stealing cookies from the owner.

If it was never yours to begin with it's not sharing, it's distribution.
