Old school Soviet solution to a gas well fire -- nuke it from underground. Apparently it worked.

Details: (i) burning for three years; (ii) bomb in the kiloton range

"Nearly 10 million cubic meters" of gas consumed per day...for three years. Is it any wonder the environment is so fucked?
