Maybe I'm showing my ignorance... But what the hell is "American Exceptionalism"?

Through a series of historical events caused by a mixture of luck, special circumstances, lack of oversight, and happening to back the right horse at the right time, the USA went from a rebellious colony of an overextended empire to arguably the single most influential global superpower.

We didn't get there because we're "exceptional". The governmental system we refer to as "Democracy" wasn't a uniquely American idea; I believe strongly that it is a good system (particularly for being better than historical alternatives), but we basically just lucked out in the USA in terms of being able to implement the idea who's time had come.

I hope we never get complacent enough to think that we simply deserve the success our country has had or have the gall to think that the world should be grateful for our shining example of awesomeness.

The assertion that the US is morally/legally justified in applying standards of behavior to other countries which it does not uphold itself.

Example: Iran CAN'T be allowed to have nuclear weapons (but, implicitly it's okay if we do).

Yes, it seems Liz is following in her father's foot prints. Ignore reality in favor of a fantasy world. Its to bad that she forgets that journalists tend to look at historical records for accuracy of things said and done. Which, is sort of what one does, with a journal in a professional sense.

Lets see, the GOP has airhead blondes down to a science now. We have Liz Cheney, Ann Coulter, and that scary looking lady on Fox News in the morning. They all ignore reality, and spew up fiction as if its true. But, that's the caliber of people, the republicans want leading them. They complain that our goverment does nothing, but play politics in Washington; and yet, the same people they elected, are doing the majority of playing. They had hearing about pork spending, but their own elected officals are bring pork home to their states.

Still, I was alittle fearful that after we elected a real president (no amateur hour with GWB), the news would get sort of boring. Its nice that Fox News, and the GOP keeps up with entertaining crap.

I don't really want to defend Liz in the first place ..but....

Did Liz really insinuate at all that Bush HAD been to Dover? To me, it seemed as if she was saying when Bush participated in previous memorial services to the fallen, he didn't do it in the same way Obama had. I don't think she was saying that Bush had been to Dover, so it doesn't seem right to me for Rachel to say that she lied about this particular fact.

At least Now we know where Gonzales learned how to testify...

What are you talking about? They all learned from the best! Reagan and Oli North!

It is my understanding that the bodies of fallen soldiers ALL come back through Dover AFB. Not going to Dover means not even once bothering to receive the dead, of a war he himself started.

it's starting to get boring. it seems all there is left in US tv journalism are big egos.

That isn't journalism. That's opinion wrapped in egotism.

The alternative is to let the lies become history... It's a war of inches. Let one lie go, they gain a bit of ground. Let another go, oops, another inch. Pretty soon there is nothing but lies.

A phrase popped up a while back in Australia to describe the efforts of the media, community and independant politicians to check the major parties bullshit. "Keeping the bastards honest" Unless you keep the bastards honest, they will eventually plough you under.
