Panic Room by Fairlight (64k demo) - amazing.

You might not think the animation or music are anything incredible, but keep in mind the entirety of the program / data that makes it run on a computer is 64KB. That's 4 whole seconds of 128kbps mp3 file. That's a handful of .txt files. That is, in terms of number of ones and zeros used to make something happen, nothing. Most 8-bit NES games were larger than that.

Jeebus. You can download it here, though I wasn't able to get it to work.

If adding it to the engineering channel was incorrect, let me know and I'll fix it. Seems like software engineering at it's finest to me, so I think it's appropriate.

these guys should get involved in programming the next version of windows.. that actually gave me an idea about a video to sift.

reminded me of this other demonstration of computing efficiency.

64k? I'm absolutely blown away, even assuming they are using procedural textures.. does the music count as well?

theres actually a yearly competition to see who can code the best 64 k demo, type in google "64k demo scene" and you'll find some mindblowing stuff.

I've never worked on demos, but it's my understanding that everything you see and hear comes out of that 64KB, yes. Procedural everything (and a bit of sampling on the audio, I assume) and ridiculous system specs to make it run smoothly.
