You wonder, where are the parents? From an interview with the author/director:

"Q: Nearly all of the girls were living with single moms. What role do absent fathers play?

They're completely absent. And in a way, so are their mothers. What I saw a lot of was poor judgment. The mothers were so busy with their own lives. A lot of them were involved in their own romances. They just bury their heads because they don't know what to do."

This practice is called "grooming" and is commonplace in the Third World. Especially among Arabs and Indians.

To my knowledge, Nick Griffin of the BNP is the only politician that has outspoken on this issue in the UK. He almost was jailed for it, in fact.

Yes, I heard about this happening in Japan, and figured, "meh, maybe their culture doesn't view this as crazy."
... plus they didn't have interviews with the girls to view on videosift so it didn't hit me as hard.

I think this is far more a product of Krupo's point than billpayer's point.

Having parents who give their children little to no attention AND having completely absent fathers to boot... where else can a young girl get the attention and 'affection' she wants? From boys in this way.

Very, very sad, just don't try to write it off so easily as another consumerist society problem (although if the reason the parent's are giving no attention is because they're chasing the dollars at work, then to a degree it is), think of it far more as an issue with not taking parenting and YOUR role as a parent seriously.

You don't just give birth (or far too often now, schedule a convenient Caesar) and then pay the bills for your child... you actually have to be A PARENT.

Poor kids, they are screwed for life because of this.

More reasons to make prostitution legal. I'm not in support of 12 year olds giving blow jobs(16 year olds are another story), but if adults can work in a legal environment, it makes it easier to draft tougher laws against stuff like this. Because it means there's an even bigger difference between doing one legal act and doing several illegal acts at the same time.

As for the absent parents issue, it helps if both parents are around, but it really won't stop this from happening. Those same sorts of sex parties have been around for a long time. My mother admits to going to some, when she was my age, and had 2 loving, catholic parents who were VERY involved in her life.

Teens are sexual, because they're supposed to be. They have this huge internal thing happening to them, that's tell them to breed. Should it happen like this? Probably not, but it's been happening this way and in far worse ways for thousands of years. It's just silly to get freaked out over it now. The solutions to this conflict are all based on how we all view what we're "allowed" and "not allowed" to do in our own lives.

They don't just need $1000! Even if you give them what they need, they still need more! You cannot have $1000 everytime they ask you for or everytime they need it. The major cause of today's sex movement in young people is the shift in our human life pattern or style that involves adult's (parents') liberality about sex, from women's rights, gender's struggle for equality, separation, divorce, same sex marriage, domestic violence, single-motherhood etc. Children are almost abandoned while adults are busy chasing after their own pleasures and freedoms. They also immitate adults' lifestyle. No cure!
