dw1117says...I know I'm not the only one who thinks this would be great for a dog in a small backyard. This is also Mike Vick's dream machine for his dogs.
hueco_tankssays...For the hopeless drunk who needs exercise.
legacy0100says...or hands-on experience as mmoRPG character
rustybrookssays...It seems to have very limited motion along the "long" axis (the direction the "slats" run). I suspect you couldn't really walk those directions long.
slybrisays...I always imagined they'd build something like this. Good job! Virtual reality is one step closer! (no pun intented
mt256says...holodeck baby!!!
karaidlsays..."Any direction"??? Uh, sorry, he didn't go up OR down!
Spoon_Gougesays...I see this as a peripheral for a FPS or as Legacy pointed out a mmoRPG game. Put a gun in your hands and some of the newer monitor specs on and you are IN the game.
bhyphenlowsays...Pretty nice-- properly equipped, it could be quite useful in therapy settings.
kingsbloodsays...YES!!!! Next stop, VR!
/swoon
conansays...I think rustybrooks is right, i didn' even notice at first. seems to have some problems..
bamdrewsays...Oh Nooos! I'm Trapped!
arvanasays...I found another video of this thing:
http://www.videosift.com/video/Another-video-of-the-omni-directional-treadmill
I don't really think there's any limit to movement, it just happened to be the way he was walking in this particular clip.
UncleAndy7says...Pretty cool tech indeed. Arvana's second link is worth a look!
arvanasays...Oh, puh-leeese, UncleAndy.... WHY would somebody fake this? Isn't it just possible that somebody has come up with a really cool invention? There's more info about it here: http://www.vsd.bz/ And yes, it does allow infinite motion in any direction.
UncleAndy7says...In reply to arvana's comment:

Yes, it IS possible that somebody has come up with a really cool invention - the omni-directional treadmill HAS been around for at least 10 years - do a Google search of it:
IEEE article from 1999:
http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/Xplore/login.jsp?url=/iel5/38/17375/00799737.pdf?tp=&arnumber=799737&isnumber=17375
I see through your link that there are other pictures of this to confirm it's authenticity
How do you delete comments??
arvanasays...hehe nice save, UA7. Actually your original "FAKE" comment was a really good explanation of how somebody COULD fake this if they really felt the need to.
Erocksays...Now we can all make Jamiroquai music videos!
handmethekeysyousays...dude, sweet safety harness.
shatterdrosesays...I just watched a show the other day, no clue what it was, but one of the hosts was showing a "new" interactive game that uses a real life person to interact with the characters on screen. I can easily see these two technologies being easily merged and having a truly, 360 (minus up OR down ) where you can walk, punch, kick and everything else in the game environment. And to think, Florida schools bought DDR to get their kids to exercise . . . .
