Occupier calmly and logically rants to a line of NYPD

from YouTube Description:

I'm told his name is Daniel Murphy he was arrested twice and beaten in 24 hours.Union Square after the Million Hoodie March for Trayvon Martin, morphed into a re occupation of Union Square. Daniel decided to address his concerns directly to the police and to appeal (mostly) to their humanity to stop the violence.

I bet those cops are counting down the minutes when they can arrest this person again. Calling people 'assholes' is not conducive to winning over their hearts and minds.

And I guarantee you those cops are not questioning why they are arresting people like this kid for trespassing, disorderly conduct, etc.

Funny how he's so quick to dismiss the importance of law when the law is the only thing letting him insult and belittle those cops without repercussion.

Also, the description is misleading. He's not trying to appeal to their humanity. He's just being obnoxious and condescending because he knows he can get away with it.

Well I would echo what some people here criticized about his tone but I would also point out you should walk in his shoes. Ever been beaten and gotten really ticked off about it? I would be, and I'd probably want to at least call the people responsible a bunch of cunts.

Makes some good points though. The people they are protecting are slowly taking everything away from all organized unions and slowly working their way through public jobs. They are kinda shooting themselves in the foot breaking up the occupy events that are making people a bit afraid of continuing those practices.

Any 'Occupy' event is protected by free speech as long as you are assembled in a lawful manner. When you 'occupy' an area in violation of the law, you risk arrest.

But meeting at the local church is out because these people don't like Christianity, and they won't meet any other legal place because it would not elicit the press coverage they desire.

First of all I would like to give this MAN the Iron Balls of the Year Award.

Second of all: The form of presentation was magnificent. There is no reasonable arguing about that. I really enjoy the fact that he is using profanity to express his utter hatred for those officers who arrested him, without getting aggressive at all. The neutral manner in which he performs is what makes this vid so fucking brilliant.

Speech of the year. At least concerning the whole OWS thingy...

They desire press coverage because if they rent a hall and meet together no one notices. They're protesting that they have the right to freely assemble anywhere. Especially when Laws aren't something the police or the government seem to be conscerned with.

you have no idea what you are talking about.
many of the rights you enjoy were hard fought by practices implemented by the OWS movement but they are in no way a "new" practice.
this is about clogging the cogs of the machinery of government and business and little to do with press coverage.
why?
because those in power will ALWAYS attempt to marginalize the voices of those who challenge said power.
as we speak the senate is voting on NEW restrictions which makes certain protest areas a felony and no longer a misdemeanor.
think that is a coincidence?
that the bill being passed just happens to coincide with the OWS protestor population rising?

and lets not forget st paul and the RNC convention in 2008 and the authoritarian practices implemented by the st paul police and the so-called "free-speech" zones set miles away from the actual events.

you can go all the way back to the early 1900's and find how protestors got their message across.the labor movement comes to mind.
or the civil rights.
vietnam protests.
there were deaths at the hand of police and hired security firms.
beatings and maimings.
intimidations and bullying.
but those protestors used the very same tactics being used by OWS...
hell,they perfected those tactics.
and they are extremely effective.

i could go on...
but you are obviously an authoritarian and the magnificent history of peoples movements in america are lost on you.
and the comment about the OWS movement disliking chritianity just seems fabricated,or at its best painted with an extremely broad brush.
it still smacks of you not knowing what you are talking about.

@lantern53 is a troll.

That or is too blinded by simplistic legal moralism to understand the circumstances the Occupy Movement is facing.

Laws are currently being rewritten to define "misconduct" as anything People in Power don't like.

If assembling in public areas is currently being made unlawful, how can free speech even exist at all?

Lantern53's response: Oh.. I hadn't thought about that. But regardless, rule of law is ALWAYS the highest priority. Without obeying the law, corruption and abuse might take place.

swedishfriendsays...

Any law that restricts peaceful protests is unconstitutional. The police that enforce those laws are not doing their jobs as officers of the law. They should be reprimanded or fired.

swedishfriendsays...

"Just doing my job", "Just following orders" didn't save any nazis from imprisonment after WW2. The police better start acting constitutionally because eventually the people on the side of the constitution will be the ones in charge.
