GreatBirdsays...It's hard to argue with McKenna's reasoning, but I don't think I trust him. Need to find out for myself.
11714says...^lol you were paying attention! I think he has a funny voice. Sounds like a kid.
garmachisays...Was that REALLY music by Pink Floyd? I certainly didn't recognize it...

Just say "know".
Raigensays...That was almost wonderfully ambiguous.
I'd never heard of this person, and, boy howdy, I don't think I like him in the slightest.

It's easy for people to knock on him due to the nature of his research but I think he was a great man.
Trancecoachsays...As I mentioned to Irishman offline, McKenna is a personal hero of mine, and I highly recommend the many audio and video programs of his lectures on the internet. You can start here.
"Culture is not your friend."
Enzobluesays...I listened to a part of one mp3, and it seems to me that you could replace his 'Novelty' with Robert Pirsig's 'Quality' at least in the beginning. Where McKenna goes forward with it, (and more mainstream), Pirsig took it much farther back to where it all started at the most basic. I'd love to see some thought put between the two.
Irishmansays...Terence McKenna does use the word 'Quality' in much the same was as Pirsig uses it, but here the word 'novelty' is referring directly to a *property* of time, with the opposite of novelty being 'habit'.
Things tend toward habit, but every once in a while things stray from habit into novelty. Novelty theory is McKenna's 'why' of the straying from the path of habit.
I agree that Terence goes forward into mainstream lines of thought with Novelty theory in many of his talks, I think he genuinely wanted this theory to be taken seriously by the mainstream.
I read much of Terence's work but I didn't start taking him seriously until I *listened* to the hours and hours of audio available. Anyone who knows about Terence will know exactly what I mean.
djsunkidsays...Another good mckenna video is on here, and one of my all time favourite sifts:
