I think printing/fabbing things at home will definitely happen. It's just a case of making the device simple, reliable with cheap source materials.
Oh and yes he didn't really address how you actually clean the dishes. I actually like doing the washing up so no bother for me.

Though likely, it's less than is used to heat the water in a dishwasher...
