Janussays...An F1 car drifting... that's not something you see every day. "Just add snow", I guess.
visionepsays...I wish they would include some telemetrics in videos like this. I have no concept of how fast the guy is going. He could be going 30 miles an hour or 100 miles an hour. With my untrained eyes I can't even compare this to anything I've done.
I've driven several powerful rear wheel drive cars in the snow and ice though so I can definitely tell what is going on with the drifting and sliding.
Spacedog79says...Looks like someone idiot went out earlier and drove most of the track on a tractor. Must have been bumpy as hell.
EnzoblueKind of silly imo. F1 cars last year in Malaysia couldn't go faster than walking speed when the track flooded, my guess it's the same here and an SUV could have given this guy a good run.
jqpublicksays...He's got treaded tires. A brief read of the f-1 wiki page states they use them in standing water conditions.
I'd say there must be some kind of limiter on that engine, or they've tuned it really really low; otherwise he would have just constantly spun out. Well (he amended hastily) he could just be a truly bad-ass driver.
nothingbotAlthough it is a formula race car, it's not formula 1. It's actually a Formula BMW race car used at the Nurburgring (Nürburgring Formel Super Racing). Here are the specs from the website:
Formula BMW
Engine: 4 cylinder, 1,200 cc
Maximum rev: 8,200 rpm /
Chassis: Carbon monocoque
Power: 103 kW, 140 hp
Weight: 465 kg
Transmission: Hewland sequential 6-speed
Still, a very cool video.
