Chinese Farmer Creates Wind-Powered Car

I think it's more likely that this system extends the drive time of whatever battery cells he has installed in the thing. It's not that he's getting free energy, it's just that at 40 the system is going fast enough that even though there's a net loss, the additional energy stored in the batteries gives a longer running time. I think that's just about all that there is here.

That is the dumbest thing I've ever seen.

Agreed. I'd downvote the video if I could. People, if you're in doubt, think of it this way - if the fan could generate more power than the loss of pushing it, then you could just keep adding more fans until it becomes a perpetual motion machine..

Die Antwoord is a ninja. A terrible, terrible ninja.

Fantastic X Factor Audition Song by Lucy Spraggan

Gee, a slick and savvy tv show spins a come-from-nowhere story via effective (albeit biased) editing to get more people watching?

Say, what's the premise of this show again?
>> ^spoco2:

Well, except the last part where she says she never thought she could do that, and she's only ever had her friends and family say that she's good... kind of alludes to her never having performed in front of a crowd does it not? They certainly do their best to give the impression this is her first time doing anything.
>> ^FlowersInHisHair:
Who said she'd never performed before? She wrote the song and can play the guitar... it's pretty much a given that she's performed before, right?
>> ^spoco2:
Hang on... this gave the impression she was just someone who had never done this before.
But this aired just now, August 2012, and yet:

[Wikipedia]In July 2011 she was announced as the runner up of the Urban, Pop & Acoustic category of Live and Unsigned at the age of 20. In June 2012 she performed alongside Razorlight at Osfest at Oswestry Showground in Shropshire

So, the Osfest performance may have happened after this was recorded, but she had at least competed (and one would have to assume performed) before this, and released an album...
So, while I like her, something twigged that she seemed a little too comfortable while singing, a little too well rehearsed to be doing this the first time.

American Cop In Canada Wishes He Had His Gun Because...

jqpublick says...

It's been widely reported in Canadian news: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/story/2012/08/08/calgary-nose-hill-gun-stampede-police-us.html , and I think even on the BBC. I was in Thunder Bay (two provinces away) and I heard about it early last week about it. So it's pretty well known in Canada. >> ^jimnms:

This is the first I've heard of this story, so it can't be that viral. I've only heard one side of the story, so I'm not going to even comment on it. What I'd like to know is why do the TYT commentators and people here assume that if he had a gun he would have shot them? The majority of reported incidents of self defense with a gun, the gun is not discharged.

Possibly one of the most fantastic things ever.
Okay, maybe not. But still.

It being a parody really really really helps, because God help the world if that wasn't tongue in cheek. Whomever God is (or isn't, or was, or will be, or will be again) to you. (There, I think I got everybody.)

The Truth about Atheism

jqpublick says...

Excuse me for butting in late in the discussion but;

If the point of religion is to live well enough that when you die your god judges you well, isn't what you do in your life more important than what you believe? If you live a good life, are caring and considerate of those around you and do your best to clean up the world around you, why would your god care about what you believe?

If the point of 'non-religion' is that life is without extended duration because there is nothing to reincarnate/fly heavenward/party in valhalla, that lack of belief won't change the animalistic instincts to love your child, protect it and by extension protect and support those around you. Therefore, you tend to want to live a life that is caring and considerate and leads you to clean up your own back yard.

The point is to think about your life while experiencing your life, to be awake for it all. 'Sinning' is much harder when you're aware of what you're doing (and yes atheists will understand the intent of the word). Beauty is everywhere. Not sleep-walking through life is reason enough for me, regardless of my (or your) religious inclinations.
