Living With Michael Jackson (Full Documentary)

Well we're in a few camps on the sift as to how we feel about MJ and his death. But love him or hate him this documentary pretty much gives us everything we'd want to know. Martin Bashir is very thorough and even though he did pretty much stitch MJ up like a kipper, he does get some amazing interviews out of him. Shoulda given it to Louis Theroux dude...

While it is quite a watch, there was a followup which showed quite a few outtakes in which Bashir was clearly being disingenuous to MJ. Again, I'm not a MJ apologist, but Bashir definitely pandered to him off-camera, calling him a "great father" and such, only adding the damning voice-overs after the fact. If you read the wikipedia article, it wasn't until the very end, in the interview specifically about Gavin that he "confronted" Michael to his face.

Not saying all was kosher over at Neverland, but the behavior of this "journalist" is pretty typical media two-faced douchyness.

Oh god yeah, he's a nasty piece of work. This was a clear cut case of dirty journalism. I think that Louis Theroux would have been far more classy about it, but then again probably wouldn't have got to the depths Bashir did by tricking him. All i'm saying is that in between all that bullshit he has managed to get some great footage

It's really sad that Bashir felt he had to be devious. It's not like the footage he got and the revelations that were made weren't sensational on their own, why he felt the need to 'spice it up' further is beyond me. He just made it harder for anyone to trust him again in the future or for other celebrities to trust interviewers in general as much in the future. Sad.

I've got to part 5 so far (Youtube has decided to go into maintenance now), and there is much to be intrigued by with Michael. It had amazed me that one person could burn through so much money and be in financial difficulty after making so much, but watching him in the store just flippantly buying 1/4 million dollar items on a whim demonstrates how easily one can piss away fortunes on basically just large trinkets.

It seems like he never had a stabilizing, nurturing hand to make him be able to handle life better... very sad, very sad.

Spot on.

I watched the whole thing. The one thing which is really really fascinating for me is the facial expressions he makes. Seeing him outside of the highly choreographed videos/performances we usually saw him in really humanizes him in a way that I don't think is possible through his music. A very very different (and as you pointed out sad) side of the man.

In a strange way, watching this today made me feel a lot more empathy for him than any of the bullshit media barrage over the last week.

Obviously, I don't know the real particulars of what happened in his bedroom... BUT, I have to say that he seems to come from place of innocence. He doesn't necessarily see the issue that people have with it.

You do sort of get the feeling that maybe he didn't think of it in a sexual nature, but rather he does seem like all he wanted to do was give kids a fantasy experience of childhood.

He was indeed seriously mentally scared, but I think that he came from a good place, but ended up misguided somewhat.

What watching this does make me want to do is even more so ensure my kids have a great childhood with their parents, lots of love, lots of playing.

I saw a bit of this where MJ talked about the beatings he got as a child. There's no way you could watch that and not feel some empathy. Later, I saw the bit where he was buying expensive crap in the Las Vegas store, and the 'journalist' was trying very hard to be shocked at the scale of the purchases. But really, watching a wealthy dude buy expensive shit is not shocking. He seemed like a bottom feeder to me.

The scariest thing about MJ is how in this interview when pressed he refuses/can't question whether what he's doing might be harmful to kids (sleeping in the same bed with them unescorted etc). There's no proof of it on tape but that unusual attitude is what makes someone able to do the unusual act of molesting a kid. Being molested/beaten and/or just used as a kid like he was has the tendency to make someone suppress feeling what it was like to be helpless as a kid out of pain and I think that's what gave him that unusual quality. And ultimately probably why he died overdoing the drugs trying to blot it all out.
