I've never understood the naturalization issue, because it was created when we were a fledgling nation, full of British spies and a bit xenophobic (maybe necessary at the time.)

Of course, I also don't understand the necessity of the second amendment or the electoral college for the same reason.

My friend isn't even a citizen here, yet she speaks three languages fluently and graduated with highest honors from the university. And I must admit, she'd be more ready to be a leader than I would. So what does my lifetime of American citizenship do for me, when I am not qualified for any other reason?
