BSRsays...Betelgeuse is a red supergiant that has evolved from an O-type main-sequence star. After core hydrogen exhaustion, Betelgeuse evolved into a blue supergiant before evolving into its current red supergiant form. Its core will eventually collapse, producing a supernova explosion and leaving behind a compact remnant.
Finding Betelgeuse
newtboysays...Yes, it could go supernova anytime and astronomers agree it will, but you might be waiting a few hundred thousand years or longer. When it eventually does go supernova it will be visible with the naked eye as a star emitting as much light as a full moon but in a single point. You won’t need any magnification at all to see it even in the daytime.
