My cat used to do that with his food. It's not that I bought him shit food, it's that he had a disease where his stomach was perpetually sour and everything was shit for him... even tuna, chicken, whatever.

My cat does that for all food, even that he likes. The experts for my breed say it is vestiges of "covering food in hopes of returning later and finishing it," but I pretty much think he's saying his food sucks--like, doesn't jump around and wear fur enough.
