spoco2says...Dead on.
Trying to make a lack of education and doing manual labour being the defining qualities of a country is just ridiculous.
13439says...A big chunk of Jon Stewart's humorous appeal is his expression. Look at :47 exactly HOW he says the big punchline. Would still be funny if sound-only, but not AS funny as this.
Trancecoachsays...Now, I'm sure she can't wait to appear on his show.
HaricotVertsays...Wow, they have a sign language translator stage right. That's right, translate all those f-bombs so the deaf can hear them too!
What is the signing of the word "fuck," anyhow?
MINKsays...^surely it's joining your left thumb and forefinger to make a circle, and then putting your right forefinger into the circle repeatedly.
13439says...Actually, all you need is Jon Stewart's expression at 00:47. When someone is talking about you with that particular look on their face, you don't NEED sign language.
Paybacksays...Actually, It looks to me Osama wanted to attack symbols of America's wealth and foreign policies, not Americans or any American's values. If he wanted to just kill Americans, he would have targeted stadiums and schools. If he wanted to destroy symbols of America, he would have targeted the statue of Liberty, or the Smithsonian, or Library of Congress. Instead, he went after the money, and the military, and almost the President.
Don't get me wrong, an attack on a part is an attack on the whole, but to say New York is somehow more indicative of "Traditional American Values" than Little Town America because it was attacked by terrorists is kinda silly.
imstellar28says...they might as well be chanting "we're retards"
GuyIncognitosays...Unfortunately Payback, you are wrong. America's values ARE represented by its foreign policies. Your elected officials and the foreign policy decisions they make, represent your nation. They represent your present day values. I can't occupy my neighbours home, take his property, and then claim these actions do not represent my values. Osama Bin Laden struck the greatest of all American values, the persuit of your own self-interest. If this were not the case, then why maintain a military empire supporting that wealth? The Berlin Wall has long fallen. Osama was created to serve your own economic interest. Don't have any illusions.

Where in his talk did he say or imply that? You're confusing the issue. His point was that cities are just as important as small towns.

Sorry to interrupt, but your having one right now...

Right near the end, "if New York City is good enough for Osama B. L., then it better be fucking good enough you". By inference, he's saying that city values are only what counts because they have more people, when in fact it was just a bigger target.
burdturglersays...I think you're reading something into it that isn't there Payback.
To me, it's clear his point was that cities are no less American (or "pro America") than small towns.
aaronfrsays...He's saying that cities are not inherently anti-American or somehow fake American. Payback, you're confusing the original implication of Sarah Palin's statements for the pushback on that ridiculous hypothesis by Jon Stewart.
GuyIncognitosays...Okay bcglorf, while the CIA may never been in direct contact with Bin Laden, it spent up to $630 million a year funding the Afghan Mujahideen.
I don't want to waste any more of my time, but you clearly need to learn more about the Soviet war in Afghanistan and Al-Qaeda.
13439says...I have to agree with the others, Payback. He was refuting the argument that NYC is *less* American than small-town America.

No, I'm actually quite familiar. You just need to be more honest. Funding the Mujahideen does not equal creating Osama. You are leaving out many of leaps of logic to get to:"Osama was created to serve your own economic interest." I simply chose not to dignify such tripe with an in depth rebuttal.
GuyIncognitosays...Sigh, tripe that is not. Just read this.

Paybacksays...I guess I'm just too used to Maher's attitude on the subject.

The US funded the Mujihadeen while their self interests coincided. That a splinter group of them continued on to become Al-Qaida doesn't exactly equate to the US creating Al-Qaida to "serve it's own economic interest".
burdturglersays...You guys are forgetting the important thing here...
My 2nd #1 video! WOOHOO!!
10891says...He can't say that to a lady.
GuyIncognitosays...American funding facilitated his rise. Your contribution to the Afghan jihad against Soviet ideology was significant. These people served your economic interest at one point in time, and they were eventually discarded. These are beasts that you created. Unfortunately, blowback can be a bitch. I'm sorry if you can't swallow that.

Liberal_Flunkysays...Thanks Jon! I have no clue where the world would be without your unbiased guidance. When you say that there's no difference between cities and suburbs, you're dead wrong. When I lived downtown for 5 years prior to now I had my SUV stolen once, stereo stolen from the SUV year before that, and replaced FIVE windows from all the break-ins. I was stuck up at gunpoint when coming home from work and had to put up with beggars daily. I moved to the burbs and no crime, no violence, and nothing but neighbors who complain about trash cans staying outside a day past trash day.
Also, who gave you the right to determine which political party the entire Jewish faith should subscribe to?
Jon you were definetly in with the right crowd on Emmy night the other day. Why can't the liberal left take a day off from preaching about which political party he people at home should support? Can't stand it when the Jehova's witnesses do it for Jehova, same applies to entertainers about Political Parties.
I've come to extremely dislike your show because you have the audacity to think that your audience just isn't smart enough to make political decisions without your omnipotent input.
Jon .. You're a fucking comedian, not a political analyst. When I turn on the television to see you I want to laugh, not watch some political hack disguised as a comedian. I don't care how smart or right you think you are, you're opinion's have baggage and always berate Republicans and prop up Democrats.
Go work for CNN if you feel obligated to defend the Democratic party at every given opportunity.
You work for COMEDY CENTRAL, now stop the propaganda and do what you're paid to do. Make me laugh you fucking monkey.
