budzossays...This movie got the worst title ever. "Constantine" instead of "Hellblazer". Ironic considering the conception of hell shown here is the best and most remarkable thing about the movie. I think it's the best ever cinematic depiction of hell.... it's our world, basically undergoing a constant nuclear blast.
As a huge fan of the comics, I have to say they could have done a much worse job at this. Just a little bit too much focus on action, not enough black magic from John, but aside from that quite a good movie.
Croccydilesays...I was disappointed when the movie had lukewarm reception, reassuring there would not have been a follow up. I had not heard of the Hellblazer comic before the movie but because of it, I started to look into the series. Quite a shame such a nice concept got put out on a cafeteria tray and forgotten.
Tilda Swinton was a good Gabriel, but Peter Stormare was a GREAT Satan. Seeing this clip makes me wish there was another movie.
Oh and by the way it is 5C in Florida today. So
Throbbinsays...I'm in the same boat Croccydile. Never heard of the comics, but the preview I saw in the theater looked amazing! So I watched it twice in theater, and have owned it since the day I discovered torrenting.
Stormare was an awesome Satan, I agree. I think Keanu Reeves was a good John Constantine too - while he only plays the same character in all movies, he does it well.
kageninsays...Funny, that scene always reminds me of the time I had a stopover in DFW. *shudder*
alizarinsays...Hell sure is dusty!
Stormsingersays...Finally got around to watching this film tonight. And all I can say is that I've finally found a comic-made-into-film that I really liked. One of the best movies I've seen in a long time, to be blunt.
I have to agree with Budzos, that's simply the best depiction of Hell I've ever seen.
Best character: Gabriel, definitely Gabriel. Satan was fantastic (I thought being barefoot was a particularly nice touch), but there were just so many twists on the popular conception of Gabriel that there was no comparison.
gwiz665says...I thought this movie was sweet too. There were weaknesses, but Gabriel and Lucifer were definite high points. *quality
siftbotsays...Boosting this quality contribution up in the Hot Listing - declared quality by gwiz665.
