Insane Canadian Fisherman...eh?

Any fish down at the point? ridiculousness begins at :30
Paybacksays...

Warmer than the Polar Bear swims thousands of people do every New Years in the ocean. That fresh water is obviously just near 0C (32F), whereas the ocean can get much colder due to being salted.

Ironically, they're probably going to be much colder now that they're out of the water...

I HOPE there's a huge hole about 2 feet away off camera and they go under there fast and swim the 2 feet with a guide rope fixed under the ice, and there's no current.

If not, then these guys have the biggest manly balls i've ever seen in my fucking life.

Smugglarnsays...

That's the funniest thing I've seen in a long time.

Damn that must've hurt like hell. When I go ice bathing I'm usually up in a matter of seconds - and mind you I'm a purebred viking!

Difference is polar bears have waterproof fur, and we don't.

Mashikisays...

Considering we only have 2 seasons up here(Winter and construction). We've learned how to survive in the first one by any means. It helps to avoid tax collectors.

Sounds like they're having a difficult time delivering their lines. I'm sure their diaphragms are spasming. I could never do that.

Gasping for air is the initial reaction, the shock wears off after a short while in the water.

Shepppardsays...

Not actually sure where in ontario this was filmed, but those are some eastern accents they're carrying.

Nova Scotian most likely, if it were newfie, we couldn't understand a damn word they'd be saying.

Hmm, upon further inspection, they may be newfie accents, just not that thick.

dethetersays...

Every Canadian is trained to find fish under the ice in just this manner, from the age of three and up, so there's nothing really amazing going on here. Oh, and we all live in igloos.

I can think of nothing scarier than swimming under ice looking for an air hole.

...and when you come up for air you realize someone has poured oil on the surface and lit it on fire!
