So I'm guessing there's a brace on his right leg affixed to the plate below. As long as his CoG doesn't cross the edge of the plate, he's golden. (Pun intended.)

If this functions like I think it does, it's still impressive for the amount of leg strength necessary to hold the position. If the brace extends up behind his thigh and has a lock on the hinge, then it might be more akin to sitting.
