The Defense Language Institute uses a language classification system of 1-5 that denotes how difficult it is for a native English speaker to learn. 1 is the easiest, 5 the most difficult. 2's are things like French and Italian. 4's take much longer to learn, like Chinese. African click languages are 5's...they don't teach any 5's at the DLI.
