Erm that's cool and everything but most cheap wine is screwtop these days and if you aren't buying cheap wine the chances are you own a bottle opener.

But when you've got a corked bottle of decent wine and can't be bothered to rummage around in your drawer for the corkscrew, this is an excellent party trick!

Quite a bit of good wine is screw top too, since screw top fasteners generally work a bit better.

Actually, I posted this for the benefit of my past self. I was in high school with some friends in a park at night and my group had nothing to drink but this one bottle of wine and NEEDED to get it open. We didn't know this trick, so we smashed the top off and tried to "drink around" the bits of broken glass.>> ^zaust:
