How to Multiply Numbers In One Step

cobaltsays...

This is long multiplication but without writing it down. I think this would actually be harder than just writing it unless you happen to be good at mental arithmetic in which case this would just be a neat trick to help speed you up even more.

This is bull, it's clearly 5 steps and isn't new or clever.

Westy - please tell me English isn't your first language! That was an appallingly badly written post, I'm not spelling / grammar Nazi and I'm sure I make mistakes, but I actually had to translate that into something readable before I could understand it and I only bothered to do that because it felt like a challenge. Sorry to be a patronising git but I have to do this:

"Yes, what made me disinterested in maths at school was the fact the teacher was never very clear or obvious in their explanations, and always did things quickly as if to make themselves look clever or something. I have found when learning software or artistic things that the tutorials and explanations are more clear, concise and easy to follow. I just wish that maths was presented in the same way and wasn't full of assumptions and up-their-own-ass teachers. Rant over."

Rant over indeed. I'm sure if I tried to say something like that in French or German it would be 100 times worse so if English isn't your first language I apologise, but hey, there is at least a built in spell checker on this site!

Hey! Anyone who calls out westy's spelling and wordplay is itching for a fight with me.:)

I often feel like I solved the Sunday NYT crossword puzzle (which I never can do without cheats) when I am able to fight my way through the westy grammatical thicket.

The fact is that westy is a prodigal two year old. Or Charly from Flowers For Algernon.

Quboid . sometimes im just writing something fast and this site is very mutch entertainment for me so i dont feal i have to spell check everything all the time and its optional for you to read what i write if you cba thats fine dont read it.

my spelling on hear is purly a combinatoin of lazenes and slight retardatoin.

( nice work on corecting it if you could do that for all my posts that would be fantastick)

Hehe, now you're taking the piss. I hate to be the Nazi but that just made my head spin. Good to see our schools doing a good job, when I left school in the UK I would have been whipped for spelling like that. (Actually, I left school about 5 years ago and only just scraped a pass in GCSE English so that's just lies.)

rickegee - you spoiling for a boiling? Mincing for a lynching? Shouting for a clouting? Itching for, er, umm, a pinching? Dammit, I'm out of bad one liners.

westy - fair dues, that's actually very impressive for a prodigal two year old, especially one who's faced our school system. You are now my hero.

*clears throat*

So, the video. I think I'll stick with multiplying the way Sr. Quinn showed me in elementary school. I've gone back and forth between being math adept and math phobic in my life, and that method made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

I shall now have to go do some trig for half an hour until I calm down.
