How to Colonize the Galaxy

What would it take for mankind to colonize the Galaxy? Theoretically, it cannot be done, sez Einstein. But prevailing theories once said we could not sail around the world, and yet we did. Later, theories told us the moon was out of our reach, and those were recanted. So how will we travel what takes light 4 years to traverse? Time will tell.

So we send off a bunch of generation ships to other systems. In the interim we manage to implement FTL drives.
The generation ships arrive to find the planets fully settled and immigrants unwelcome.

With the proper floaties and a technologically advanced cooler and other unspecified gadgets, sure...lt'd be possible, one day.

More seriously, though, I think the point is that we cannot accurately predict the limits of technological advances. New discoveries occur outside the imaginations of the *we* of today.
