What the hell shows is he watching where the gay guy is smartest and happiest and ever so great? I'm not saying it would be wrong if such a thing existed, but I'm not seeing it. Off the top of my head:

1. Modern Family: Mitchell is neurotic, clumsy, and constantly having relationship problems. Cam is different, but has his own list of problems. The smart person on the show is the 10 year old.
2. Glee: gay kid (don't know his name) is neurotic, constantly bullied, confused, etc.. and generally not the most likable character.
3. Reaper: gay characters are literally demons
4. The Office: Oscar is fairly average, and works at a bloody paper company.

I think if someone is seeing the gay guys as consistently being so successful or cool, it's in the eye of the beholder.
