I remember something like this. I was outside a club in blackpool (the tache), it's a place for altnerative dress/music/anyone who doesn't fit into the normal "clubbing" scene. Anyway, it closes and about a hundred of these (for want of a better word) 'alternative' styled people are moping around outside chatting and whatnot. I'm amongst that crowd.

3 skinny chavs walk past, one of them sees a member of the 'alt' crowd skinning up, she's squatted on her knees, head bent over. This dude approaches asking if he can have some. I didn't hear the reply. WHAM, suddenly he takes a huge football-style kick at her head, and it connects with her face. She must have been lucky he was wearing soft shoes or something, cos nothing seemed to be wrong with her, she just sat there in surprise.

Suddenly about 50 guys are not very happy at all. They set upon him with gusto, the guy was reeling around taking blows and falling around and people were dragging him up to knock him down again. I thought "if this doesn't stop, he'll be killed" so i did perhaps the bravest/stupidest thing in my life, and stepped to the front and tried to shield him a little so he could run away. I think a few people thought i was with him and they nearly went for me but i either said the right things or got lucky.

This club occasionally has a huge amount of bikers around, not hell's angels but equivalent. He was so so so lucky they weren't there, he'd have been dead.

I think he was thinking, "Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow..."

That was awesome.

Let's put it to a vote. If you like to beat up on women then downvote this comment.

Come on guys, this should be "If you're a despicable human being that likes to beat up on [people weaker than yourself], then downvote this comment." We don't protect children and women from harm because they're children or women, but because they are weaker than the average adult man (and in this case he was muscularly stronger than average, or at least seemed). I would expect the same reaction if a muscular woman tried to beat up a skinny guy. If you don't expect the same, then downvote this comment I guess.

Yes, let's teach people that violence isn't okay by thoroughly kicking their asses. By that f'd up logic, the guy in this vid has the right to come back with some friends and some 9mm's to teach all the guys who dog-piled him a lesson in return.

It doesn't matter if it was a guy hitting a woman, a guy hitting a guy, or a guy hitting himself. Just get the combatants apart and make sure they don't go anywhere before the cops arrive. Anything more than that is a criminal battery charge waiting to happen. And those guys throwing punches? They just made themselves liable for a nice fat civil suit, which they would probably lose thanks to the evidence of their macho idiocy being readily available on the internet.

like the SDGundamX above me, I don't think I can seriously endorse this either way, I don't believe in hitting women, but then again, I don't believe in hitting anyone, so all this "He is such a dick for hitting a women" seems a little odd when the chances are that the same people wouldn't give 2 hoots if it a man punching another man, so all this protectionism of women seems to be sexism in my eyes.

Also, this video doesn't provide enough context, for all we know the women in this one could have just punched the guy in the balls repeatedly and he could be defending himself, and anyone who justifies not hitting women in that situation 'because its a women' is sexist and moreover stupid, to take an example out of this situation for example, if a women came at you with a knife for example, with the sole intent of causing you GBH, would you hit her in order to defend yourself, or would your quite frankly antiquated notion of women being the gentle sex mean that you would rather you get stabbed that hit a lady.

In summary, this video doesn't provide enough context, therefore I believe its unwise to back either side, and one thing we can draw from this is that it isn't all right for the mob to beat the party that seems to be the one at fault, in a shoot first answer questions nature akin to the stereotypical image of the US army.

From a simple standpoint you can indeed agree with hitting the guy who laid into the woman? But there are also reasons why you shouldn't follow by this example.

FOR

* He was indeed far larger, far stronger and didn't really have any physical threat from her. She may have hit him such that it stung a bit, but a guy worth his salt would have either just held her back, or turned away. To start hitting her back shows a complete lack of self control for a guy with so much size. You gain FAR more respect from people if you're a large, strong person by NOT using your strength in these ways. If you HAVE the strength, and choose not to use it in these cases, that shows strength of character. He showed simple minded aggressive behavior.

* In many cases it's one thing that really gets through to boneheads like him 'Hit someone weaker than you, expect to be hit back'

AGAINST

* How are you going to decry him beating the woman when your chosen method of stopping the conflict is to beat him up? Hypocrisy at all?

* By showing a calm, pull them apart, find out the situation, get him to leave mentality, you have risen above the brutal 'beat the shit out of those who you don't like' groupthink.

* Just starting hitting back could have resulted in an all out fight if he had other bonehead friends there who wanted to step in and defend him. Then you have a whole lot of injured people compared to what looks like no-one being seriously injured in the first place.

* And as others have said, based on this one video clip, how can you be sure who is in the 'right' here? Who knows what she did to bring this on, and why she was hitting him to begin with. Sure, it's more than likely he's in the wrong, but you don't know from this video clip alone... you just don't. One of the big issues with youtube videos like this that proliferate around the world is that people get all incensed and overly angry without knowing context... and context can be everything. (The 'don't taze me bro' guy comes to mind as someone who when you know the full story, was not really as sweet and innocent as the clip released would have you believe)


Having said all that, if I, or many guys, saw a woman (especially one you knew) being hit by a guy... it is kinda hard to stop the blood rising.

this is a situation where there's no need to get the police involved. You simply deliver a beating that will effectively deliver the lesson that you can't hit women in public. SDXGunman, do you seriously expect that response from a group of drunk collegiate males on Spring Break.

If that was my sister or my wife or any woman I'd hope that the crowd would pummel him. My only regret when watching this video was that I wish I was there so I could get a lick in.

Feel free to lambast me for being a violent Neanderthal, but this is a situation where he was undeserving of pity.

People who equate a man beating on a woman with beating on said man deserve to have their air taken away. That's seriously screwed up.

I have the fuzzy happy urge to do violence on the fellow too. Although I think I already know on some level, that that revenge urge is what evil is.

qbert, it's way more than a moral question: it's a legal one. Every one of those guys that punched the male would be found guilty of battery in a court of law. "Teaching someone a lesson" is not a valid legal reason for throwing a punch. You are only allowed to use as much force as necessary to stop the assailant and it's clear in the video that the guy is being clocked AFTER being separated from the girl.

For all the knight-in-shining-armor wannabes who seem to be posting here, let me give you a reality check. My roommate in college was best buds with one of his male cousins--they used to hang out all the time. Anyway, this cousin overhears his sister telling their parents that her boyfriend had raped her. Said cousin gets two other guys together and they go out to "teach the guy a lesson." They find him, drag him out to a deserted spot, and proceed to beat the living crap out of him. Justice served right?

Problem is, one of the guys my roommate's cousin brought along was a little overzealous. He was packing heat and when they were through beating the guy he pulled the gun and shot the alleged rapist in the head. But hey, the guy deserved it right?

Well not exactly. Turns out the sister was lying about the rape. See, my roommate was Filipino and everyone in his family is strict Catholic. The girl had gotten pregnant and couldn't admit to her parents that she'd had premarital sex. So she made up the rape story to cover.

My roommate's cousin and his two friends all got life in prison. Even though two of them didn't know the third was even carrying a gun, they were considered accessories to the murder by virtue of the fact that they had set out with the intent to cause the victim harm. So all through freshman year of college my roommate got to spend his weekends visiting his best bud in a maximum security prison. The cousin was 18 at the time of his arrest (same age as me and my roommate at the time). He basically threw away his whole life in order to "teach a guy a lesson."

Think it can't happen to you? People can die from a single punch. Maybe you didn't mean to kill the guy. Won't matter in court. You can kiss your life as you knew it goodbye with at a minimum a felony manslaughter charge. In this video, in all the confusion, someone (like some of the bystanders you can see scrambling to get out of the way) easily could have gotten knocked unconscious accidentally by a missed punch and slipped underwater before anyone realized what was happening. Is that justice?

Vigilante violence doesn't teach anybody anything. Supposing the guy in this vid truly is a chronic woman abuser, all these guys did by kicking his ass is to make him take his embarrassment and emasculation out on the next girlfriend by beating her twice as hard. Good work.

Make no mistake about it: if you're willing to jump in there to throw punches at this guy, you're not interested in justice or protecting the woman. You're interested in stroking your own ego by actualizing the over-glorified bullsh*t cultural stereotype that equates "justice" with ass-kicking. And even though you see yourself as the good guy--like my roommate's cousin did--you will be in for a rude awakening about how the world really works in the event the police do show up and start sorting things out.

To everyone defending the guy in this video, if I ever see your mum or wife getting punched in the face by some guy, I'm not stopping him. I'll call the cops and let her wait the 15 minutes it takes them to get there, by which point he's run off.

These parties are way less fun when a) you don't drink and b) you aren't single.

A guy should never hit a girl. On that same note, it's NEVER ok for a girl to hit a guy, either. EVER. Take all that stereotypical macho bullshit out of the equation and get rid of that double-standard. And besides, if pain is your game, you'll hurt the person a lot more by just dumping their ass and not having anything to do with them anymore.

And regarding the proper action to take should you ever come across the above example, you separate the two. Forcibly, if required. But you don't attack the guy. Attempting to use violence to solve violence doesn't work. What did we all learn from Vito Cornelius (The Fifth Element)?

In agreement with SDGundamX; it will only further emasculate him and make him that much more reliant on violence in the future.
