Video Flagged Dead

Eating Meat = Climate Change

When anyone lectures me on global warming I like to ask them "Do you eat meat?". This is a great environmentalist short film called "Cow Live Earth" by Johan Renck.

JAPR... for you...
an article in favour of calling humans omnivores:

http://www.vrg.org/nutshell/omni.htm

interesting extracts:
"All the available evidence indicates that the natural human diet is omnivorous and would include meat. We are not, however, required to consume animal protein. We have a choice."

Conclusion
"Humans are classic examples of omnivores in all relevant anatomical traits. There is no basis in anatomy or physiology for the assumption that humans are pre-adapted to the vegetarian diet. For that reason, the best arguments in support of a meat-free diet remain ecological, ethical, and health concerns."

and you downvoted this video because what...?

more about omnivores (who NAURALLY eat meat and digest it properly rather than human omnivores who CAN eat meat for survival but it fucks up the planet and gives them cancer)

Humans have always eaten meat; it's pretty arguable that we have a natural tendency towards it. Besides, fucking everything gives us cancer nowadays, I don't see why eating meat is any more dangerous than going outside, especially if you're not eating too much of it. I personally actually don't even eat meat every day, I just don't like being preached to.

MINKsays...

if you are crushed by a flying car in a hurricane caused by the enormous amount of pollution coming out of meat farms, then it IS unhealthy for you

MINKsays...

but if he blurred it i wouldn't have sifted it and therefore you wouldn't have seen it.

What's the matter, too much reality with your information?
just go vegetarian, then you won't have to eat things that shit, if it bothers you that much.

MINKsays...

you don't even want to kill them yourself, do ya, ya big tough sailor you

eating things that shit fucks up the planet. unless you are advocating massive population reduction, go veg. Your grandchildren will ask you why you didn't do it sooner.

I am not sure this is based on science.

If one made a serious effort to produce alternative food sources it isn't clear to me that they would not produce different amounts of carbon dioxide. Also, I have found no scientific peer reviewed papers on ISI confirming this conjecture

Moreover, I think there is a thermodynamical difference between carbon dioxide and other green house gases produced by fossil fuels and those produced from defecation.

MINKsays...

I accept your point about [citation needed]

But I think your objections are short sighted. Meat farming is a huge dirty industry that does no good to the environment. The amount of fuel burnt to make the cow feed is a big deal. It's not just about the cowshit.

If you make food and then give it to cows and then eat the cow, you're wasting A LOT of energy.

Farming is based on oil. Join the dots.

How do the fish fit into this? I always thought the problem with us eating fish is that we eat all the fish and there are barely any left. So that would mean they cant shit and pollute either.

And I always heard that eating meat was what made our brains evolve into the monsters we have now. The development required animal protein, fats etc. As with all things, variation is key IMHO.

MINKsays...

^there's a lot of info about meat that is very *citationneeded. most of it originating from industry groups and paidfor research.

but anyway i don't argue that everyone should quit meat, it's just i find a lot of people who are very concerned environmentalists and yet don't have a clue how much meat farming screws things up.

I am vegetarian more for the environmental reasons really. And also i never sat on the toilet bleeding out of my arse for a week after eating a vegetable. That was definitely the meat.

Either way, let me put my opinion on the video now, I eat meat. But at the same time I am totally willing to kill, slaughter, clean, my meat before cooking. So this doesn't bother me. I've tried to go vegetarian before and it was just too damn hard, so now I just limit my red meat.

I know this probably isn't good enough for some people.

MINKsays...

fuck, missed the requeue deadline, i might just have to repost this so you can all look at it again and think about what a bad bad boy you are for eating that shit.

Kommie is "willing" to slaughter his own meat? go on then. Show us the pictures. Remember to do it for every meal.

MarineGunrocksays...

1) I ain't no lame-ass sailor ::AHEM:: - blankfist -
2) I never said I wouldn't kill them myself. I've slaughtered many a turkey and chicken. Then plucked them and all.

It's just not feasible for people to grow and slaughter their own meat.
Unless it's deer. Mmmm.... how I love me some deer meat.

K0MMIEsays...

Mink relax, just because I am willing too and have, doesn't mean I CAN everyday, hell every year. I live in a city, a big city, with more buildings than farms. Our society is not setup that way. Sorry.

MINKsays...

people talk about what is "natural" and then don't do what is "natural".

houses are not "natural". email is not "natural".

i mean, you pollute and you don't need to, but you don't feel bad about it because "society is not set up that way".

Meat is pollution. Maybe pollution is "natural"?
