My understanding is that once you know the Modes this sort of playing is very easy, except for the tapping. That takes pure practice.

Gah, Michael Angelo. I remember seeing him play a little over 20 years ago. He was doing a weird local guitarshop-sponsored free demonstration for 12 people or so before he played later that night. He looks and plays almost exactly the same. He's the the most emotionally sterile professional guitar player I think I've ever seen.
