Comcast doing that, is a result of them not investing in future hardware to keep up with bandwidth demands.

Now I guess they will either spend tons on upgrading their backbone network, or they are gonna introduce capped internet like we have here in Australia.

Bandwidth isnt free, and it certainly costs a hell of a lot more per month to the ISP's to supply you with a constant 8mb/sec+. For the leechers taking up the most of the network traffic load, a dedicated 8mb link usually hits businesses for around $400 a month, depending on the tech being used (xDSL isnt typically the method used for business grade connections though), and it is nowhere near the 50$/month mark.

You guys have had it good for way too long, dont be supprised if ISP's start putting caps on your plans.

"Americans invented the Internet, but the Japanese are running away with it.

Broadband service here is eight to 30 times as fast as in the United States -- and considerably cheaper. Japan has the world's fastest Internet connections, delivering more data at a lower cost than anywhere else, recent studies show.

The speed advantage allows the Japanese to watch broadcast-quality, full-screen television over the Internet, an experience that mocks the grainy, wallet-size images Americans endure." - link

I would like someone to explain what "net neutrality" is, as opposed to deregulation. then please explain me how this video is a "win". I have tried and tried but i just don't get it. all i hear is "waaaaaa moar internets pleez"

Net neutrality has more to do with keeping corporations from selectively delivering content based on their own monetary interests whereas deregulation is government influence over internet traffic. I might be wrong though.

Meanwhile the rest of the world has never heard of bandwidth caps. Well not the whole world, they tried it in Sweden but it wasn't very popular. The ISP's make a lot from people downloading, they better remember that.

it's either a finite resource or it isn't.
if you want the better networks that can handle 20DVD torrents a day then you can pay for that, and you will get it.

I don't see why people expect unlimited stuff to just come out of the wall for a fixed low price.

I wish my ISP would throttle bit torrent traffic. Maybe i could watch more youtube then, with it's enormously lower bandwidth requirement. I would even pay more for a connection that i know i will never share with any bit torrent users. I want short fast bursts, not permanent high speeds. Why can't I have that?
