bareboards2says...I deplore bullying.
However, I am beginning to think that the broadcasting of Tyler wasn't an example of homophobic bullying.
All the news reports say that Tyler was shy. I suspect in part due to past history with bullying or a need to hide his sexual identity.
Reports are coming out of the roommate's gay friends defending them.
I suspect that his roommate was more "congratulating" Tyler on finally scoring, and scoring with the one he WANTED to score with -- a guy.
I am ready to bet that if Tyler had been in there with a woman, the same stupid invasion of privacy would have happened, with the post also ending in "yay!" As in, yay for Tyler! Yay for coming out of your shell! Yay for "getting some."
Was it a horrific invasion of privacy? Oh yeah. Have stupid frat/college guys been doing this to their roommates (albeit without the internet to broadcast) as long as there have been videocameras?
Heck, there is a movie out now called The Virginity Project that is exactly this scenario.
I think the roommate was stupid. I also think this isn't an example of homophobic bullying.
I also think that if being gay weren't treated as such a sin, Tyler wouldn't have been so horrified at being "outed."
I grieve for all parties involved.
moodoniasays...Tyler had already raised this problem with a gay and lesbian support group, and with the dorm supervisor or whatever the term is to find out what he could do to stop it, and had on previous occaisions unplugged the computer when he was in the room with company so this had been ongoing. Judging by the comments being left at the time "how can you go back in there", "gross" etc. etc. I think being gay had a lot to do with it.
blankfistsays...I don't understand why people hate those who are different than them.
