Donald Trump: Punish Women Who Have Abortions

Trump tells Chris Mathews that under his administration, women who have abortions will be punished under the law.
He quickly reversed that statement when he found out how insane people think that idea is, but this clearly shows how he thinks and what he believes, and also shows that he's just like other politicians willing to change any position that isn't popular.
Lets hope that finally his supporters will be able to see his complete unpreparedness for office, and that he's not really the unflinching, truthful kind of guy he pretends to be.

I hadn't thought about it like that before but I suppose he's right. If you believe abortion is in fact murder, then you would not only have to convict the doctor who performed it but also the mother who went through with it. How fucked up is that?

About as fucked up as the fact that by denying a woman an abortion, the state is both physically and economically punishing her for getting pregnant by forcing her to carry an unwanted child to term (with all the associated medical costs/risks that involves) as well as be legally and financially responsible for said child until the child reaches adulthood. What was that about cruel and unusual punishments in the Constitution?

Also about as fucked up as ascribing the full legal rights and privileges usually afforded to fully developed human beings to a barely developed fetus.

EDIT: But this is Trump we're talking about, so I should have assumed from the start that anything that comes out of his mouth is going to be "fucked up."

Hey, at least Trump admitted he didn't know how long they should get in prison. That's a big thing to do for a man with such an enormous ego.

For the religious right, life begins at conception, and there's nothing you can say to convince them that a fetus does not deserve the same rights as a person.

A better argument IMO, is described in the Violinist Scenario. Basically, you wake up one day to find that a famous violinist is now attached to your body without your consent. The violinist has organ failure, and must depend on your body for the next 9 months to recover. It doesn't matter that the violinist is a real person and has full legal rights, you still have the right to refuse him and let him die.
