Openly calling a powerful nation evil causing international tension, who would of guessed. Then again there is something to be said for holding a strong face up in certain situations. I think one of the lessons during the cold war was when you have 2 super powers that are mostly concertinaed on mutually assured destruction; that a lack of communication is one of the worse possible diplomatic conditions. It ends up bad for everyone.

You can't apply this situation to many of the problems and countries we deal with now however, but the lesson is still valid. Misinformation that could lead to annihilation should be avoided...at all costs.
