Democrat Hillary Clinton on Video Games

Democrats and Republicans policing our behavior. She's using fear to convince people that video games cause violent behavior. There is no proof of this.

Oh, and when she says this isn't about censorship or regulation of content, do you believe her? Is this really about the children? You know what I say? Fuck the children. Let the parents regulate and censor what their children play. Oh, and fuck Rob Reiner, too. Fat fuck.

Hillary is wrong on this. I think if legislation were called for, it would say something along the lines of "all game companies need to provide tools to allow parental controls on their consoles".

I didn't like the whole "Hot Coffee" scandal with GTA. The ESRB retroactively changed the rating of the game to AO, because it was hypothetically possible to hack the game to show two people humping like a softcore porno.

That doesn't sound like a big deal, except no US retailer will sell AO-rated games at all, and they were pulling it off the shelves almost as soon as the ESRB changed the rating.

The aggression "fact" she presents is not true , the only study conducted that i am aware of was done during game play/ within minutes of game play, im prieety sure if u got akid that was playing many sports to stop and take the same test that was done thay would for a period time be more aggressive, simply due to competitive mind set or adrenaline from activity.

Some games do need to be rated 18+ however im not that wored about pure visuals its more the presentation and structure and game play. under bileries current logic i think we should ban most kids tv shows as they contain murder and much violence, also nearly all action films would have to be 18+

The problem is games are not culturally accepted or widely understood to a level that the art from deserves. as a result rating of games will be based on utter shit as it is for a good deal of games in the UK, often games that appear to be violent visually bear the brunt of the age restrictions and yet games whose interactoins are far more mature and could actualy have implicatoins for younger people playing them are ignored.

If i got checkers and made all the players pieces resemble real people that die horable deaths when they are jumped , the game would still be checkers.

I'm not saying ignore games that present themselves violently just saying often it might be the case that the actual game play makes the violence satirical or farcical regardless of the visual presentation this has been the case with the vast majority of violent games.

aside from all that i have yet to see anny evidence that sumone watching "bad" films playing "bad" games will become a "bad" person evan if they are children. It is fairly self evident that Games are not real far more so than other media, this might not be the case in 30 years time but for now it is.

It was nice that she pointed out some good things about games but really only hand eye coordination ( which im sure u can get from just about annything) and education, what about social interactions , team work , management skills , art, music . granted there are a grate deal of games that simply revolve around shooting things but these games are so stupid and dont represent the majorty of games produced evan more so now nintendo is thrusting cheep casual crap up our asses.

she relay should have been more specific of the exact type of games she was talking about

It's just basic pandering to a constituency. I'm sure she and the cosponsors of the bill had experts that could have given them the honest truth that the evidence linking violence in videogames and the actualisation of that is tentative at best.

At the same time though, she knows from focus groups and surveys that if the general ignorant consensus of older adults, which know nothing of video games or at best played pacman, is that video games are blatant killing and sex simulators, then that's what she needs to legislate against if she wants to boost her political popularity.
