Sorry, but the US womens soccer team in no way deserves to be paid the same as the mens soccer team. That's just ridiculous.

They deserve to be paid MORE.

I constantly hear people defending a wage gap between men and women (especially in sports) saying that the men bring in more revenue (even Ronda Rousey said that *related=http://videosift.com/video/Ronda-Rousey-Demolishes-Feminist-Reporters-Pay-Gap-Question).

Ok, boot's on the other foot now. I'm sure all those same people will be clamouring for the women to be paid in line with the revenue they generate.

What they need to do it seems is go on strike. They do have a collective bargaining agreement which is a legal contract they agreed to.

Its not a question of what you deserve, how hard you work, or sex, or even "generated revenue". Its a question of what are you willing to accept. Men are generally under more pressure to ask for more.

You are free to play football (as a job even!), which is cool, many cultures on this planet dont allow women to do that.

You have to negotiate for pay. I feel your pain, I suck at negotiating too.

These arguments are all fine, in this particular context, of a national team.

I'm left wondering if this isn't maybe a case of the WNT pay being based on average pay for professional women soccer players. I would assume that the national team's pay for them would be based on that market to an extent. I suspect the pay they get from the national team is to meant cover any shortfalls incurred by missing time with their regular clubs. I'm speculating without knowing how different their regular club salaries are as compared with men.

In short, the world cup for women is held one year after the world cup for men. So men have a boom year, then women have a boom year, then they each have a couple so so years. What has happened is that they have compared the earnings in a women's world cup year to give them something to stand on. Obviously this makes it seem like women earn more. They completely ignore the previous year, which shows men vastly out earning women, to a degree far surpassing the difference in wages. Completely dishonest propaganda. The Daily Show has really fallen far since the loss of Mr Stewart.
